Haugesund is a municipality in the Norwegian province of Rogaland with a population of around 40,000. The town is located on the North Sea coast and is an important commercial centre with a catchment area of around 200,000 people. The name Haugesund is made up of ‘Haug’ (hill) and ‘Sund’ (strait). Haugesund offers historical monuments, industrial history and an interesting cultural programme for visitors.
